ভারত হতে আসা ৫৪টি নদী এবং মায়ানমার হতে আসা ৩টি নদীসহ মোট ৫৭টি আন্ত:সীমান্ত নদী এ দেশের সীমানা পেরিয়ে দেশের অভ্যন্তরে প্রবেশের পর অসংখ্য শাখা-প্রশাখার মাধ্যমে তৈরী করেছে নদীমাতৃক বাংলাদেশ। বাংলাদেশ পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের জরিপ অনুযায়ী দেশে বর্তমানে নদীর সংখ্যা ৪০৫টি। নদীমাতৃক বাংলাদেশের অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নে দেশের নদীসমূহের রয়েছে অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা।
